My heart was overwhelmed with joy when I held my certificate from Bethel Music College last weekend. Without any doubts, this has been one of the best decisions I made and acted upon recently. I spent the last year on this journey which has been absolutely freeing; seeing other people as passionate about the service of God, the worship of God and the attention to His throne in an excellent manner. I have become more confident about the things that I teach, and also more deliberate about my actions because I am better informed.
The craziest part of this journey is that I did not think I had the financial capacity when I applied. I also didn’t think I was ready for anything academic. It was a difficult time coming out of the COVID-19 lock downs; no jobs or events and all of that. I took the step still. I had friends, colleagues and superiors who agreed with me; and very quickly, faith started to well up in me. Although I was so afraid to start, but then, I did. What is the essence of a faith journey if we knew entirely what would happen tomorrow, or the full result of an action? You have to be willing to take that leap of faith. It all starts with your very first move. You have to be courageous enough to make the first move, and then the next. It makes a lot of sense when you see or hear the phrase “do it afraid,” because nobody will make your moves for you or do it for you. You’re the only one with the responsibility to chase your dreams and goals.
I am super thankful for the BMC Team, family, and friends who did everything to set me up for success on this program. You have all contributed to the new me that is emerging. I have never been in a place this passionately warm, encouraging and enabling like BMC. Antonio Marin, our school overseer is the best teacher/leader you could ever have. He’s an all-rounder. He’s a teacher, coach, father, mentor and Shepherd. Antonio teaches Music Theory with so much simplicity and compassion. Lord!
The Lord blessed me with lifelong friends, brothers and sisters that I did not imagine, my Cohort 5 fam! Sapphire Young Desirae Casas Talita Prinsloo Cheryl Justin Deanna Burton Sarah Byers etc. We have studied together, done projects together, prayed, laughed, cried and shared with one another. I am thankful for each moment, the bond, and the blessing of all of everything!
I’m more excited about the future and happy to share with you my stories as they unfold.
